His past honors include a Fulbright scholarship for work with Jerzy Grotowski and the Polish Theatre Laboratory, national recognition for poetry and papers on dramatic theory, and awards given by the American College Theatre Festival as one of the nation's outstanding directors in educational theatre. He received his M.A. from New York University, his Ph.D. from Florida State University, and he has published articles in humanistic anthropology journals.
