Diane Elson has been and is one of the most important voices in demonstrating male bias in economic thinking and policy making. This collection brings together some of her most important, and provocative, essays, and will be warmly welcomed. -- A. Haroon Akram-Lodhi, Professor Emeritus of Economics, Global Justice and Development, Trent University, Canada Diane Elson is a personal hero, as her work opened up avenues for exploration for so many of us. Her writing helped me understand the ‘structural adjustment’ that I was studying and living through, and her analysis of the gendered cost of crises continues to influence my own approach. -- Valeria Esquivel, International Labour Organization
