Overview

It's late summer 1815, and James Yorke is excited about heading to the new world. After weeks at sea, near the Nova Scotia coast, the sailors tell them about the Devil's Staircase. The sailors swear they have seen the Devil walking on Sambro Island in the middle of the night. They say the Devil has a staircase on the island that leads right to Hell. James shrugs, knowing they are trying to impress the women and scare the children. When he and his family are forced onto the island after a storm, he quickly realizes the tale is true. A devil does stalk this island, killing any hapless soul he finds alone in the dark. As James and his family struggle to survive, he races to find a way off the island before it is too late for all of them.
