OverviewThis book is the first to compare the primary child care legislation of a developed and a developing jurisdiction influenced by English juristic ideas. The empirical findings are indicative that there is more than one specific conceptualisation of children's rights; to ensure provision, protection and/or participation rights of the child. Children's rights have become a universal concept however; limited literature exists comparing how the concept is implemented in different jurisdictions. Further, whilst literature abounds on how children perceive their rights, less is known on the views of those with the responsibility for ensuring the welfare of children. This book fills such a gap, by providing an insight into how the abstract concept of children's rights is operationalized by child care professionals in two jurisdictions, Northern Ireland and Ghana.
