Overview

In Germany, cardiovascular diseases are the cause of around 40 percent of all deaths. Coronary heart disease, heart attacks and strokes in particular are associated with significant individual health consequences and result in high healthcare and rehabilitation costs for the general public. A number of risk factors contribute to the development of this type of disease. While age, gender and genetic predisposition cannot be influenced, there are a number of modifiable risk factors such as lack of exercise, stress, poor nutrition and smoking. These unhealthy behaviours are also found among the working population in Germany. Long periods of immobile sitting during meetings, stress and unhealthy eating habits can be found in offices, production halls and on the roads in traffic. One occupational group that seems to be particularly affected by these effects is the group of managers.
