OverviewBased on an analysis of archival and literary sources, the author has conducted a theoretical analysis of the activities of agricultural educational institutions in the Chernihiv region in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Particular attention is paid to women's agricultural education. The main purpose of creating schools of this type is identified. The activities of zemstvos and public figures in creating conditions for the formation and functioning of lower agricultural educational institutions in this region are examined. It is established that a distinctive feature of such schools is their practical orientation. As a result of the research, the author has established that the founders of professional agricultural educational institutions were mainly private individuals, zemstvos, municipal public administrations, and cultural and educational societies. It was precisely this public initiative that prompted the state authorities to begin reforms in the field of agricultural education. The author emphasizes the special role of extracurricular education in spreading agricultural knowledge among peasants. This showed that there was a growing demand for this kind of knowledge among peasants in the Chernihiv province.
