He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. Also a philosopher, he is currently a member and Deputy Chair of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics. Toby Williamson was Head of Later Life at the Mental Health Foundation, a UK social research, service development, policy and public affairs charity. He was responsible for its programme of work on dementia. He also led a national campaign for mental capacity legislation and worked in government on the Mental Capacity Act 2005 implementation programme.
