OverviewThis book is the moving and powerful account of the life of Mick Great, who was born blind and became a successful piano-tuner, but later, around the age of 40, gradually lost his hearing as well (we are not told the medical explanation for this). The story is recounted by Mick and his wife, in alternating chapters written by him and her; it is more Mick's story than Pat's, but much of it does relate to the problems they overcame together. I found the book compelling and inspirational, although at times harrowing and almost unbearable, given the huge communication difficulties and isolation Mick faced as his hearing progressively deserted him, and he lost the ability to access the love of life - music.
