OverviewFew writers have such an intense and lifelong relationship with the world of fine arts as the Flemish poet Willem M. Roggeman. This collection captures the poetic narrative and insight of that relationship. As the Flemish poet, artist, and critic Paul De Vree so accurately described, Willem M. Roggeman is ""a painter with words."" Long recognized across Europe, Roggeman's poetry has been translated into Icelandic, French, Italian, Greek, Polish, Serbian, and Russian, and now into English in the United States. Roggeman is a poet deeply engaged with both literature and art, composing across the borders of genre, language, and the perception of time. As he himself wrote in Rhapsody in Blue (1958): 'in every human being there is a beast.' Marc Bungeneers Roggeman has seen the devastation of Brussels and the blue of Hölderlin. A paradoxical poet, he transforms harsh reality through unexpected language. Each poem becomes an event the reader cannot afford to miss, written with the clarity of a young elder, free of hollow rhetoric.
