In 2002, Nick T. Pappas completed his doctorate degree in Human Development and Family Science with a minor in the Sociology of Sport at The Ohio State University, while he coached the OSU Women's Club Hockey Team for four years. His unpublished dissertation titled, ""On the Ice and Off the Rink: A Qualitative Study of Hockey Players' Aggression,"" highlighted out- of-sport athlete aggression against males and females and involved interviews with 23 collegiate and/or minor professional athletes. This work served as the foundation for the title ""The Dark Side of Sport"", because the data Dr. Pappas discovered and withheld from his dissertation involved sexually deviant, but not necessarily aggressive behavior.
