He has also written for many American publications ranging from the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, and the Chicago Tribune to Cosmopolitan Magazine. For the better part of a decade he wrote about movies for Toronto Star, the country's largest circulation newspaper. In addition to his Sanibel Sunset Detective mystery novels, which have become Florida bestsellers, Base has recently introduced a series of mystery novels set around Milton, beginning with The Escarpment. Base lived in Los Angeles for several years where he wrote a book about the history of movie stardom published in the U.S., Britain, and Canada called If The Other Guy Isn't Jack Nicholson, I've Got The Part. He's also written many screenplays and has lived in Montreal, Paris, and Rome. Base was born and raised and educated in Canada. He and his wife, Kathy Lenhoff, divide their time between Milton and Fort Myers, Florida, not far from Sanibel Island where his mystery novels are set.
