The Curse Of The Jade Mirror: Book One of The Jade Mirror Chronicles

Overview

The Curse of the Jade Mirror is the first book in a remarkable new series by Martin Dench, an epic mythology for the modern age, set in a world where the past refuses to stay in the past. A world perhaps best described as 'Glasspunk'. Xiang An-ren is a successful model in Shanghai, William Reed is a bar-owner trying to escape from his past. A succession of strange events throws them together, and they find themselves fighting against an apparently unstoppable force that has lain dormant for over 2,200 years. Buried beneath modern Shanghai is ancient Jinglun, the capital of the Tomb Wheel Dynasty, an advanced civilisation that once dominated ancient China. Its last leader, Luo Ban is trapped in a mirror world, and only An-ren has the power to release him. An-ren's dreams are filled with a strange and terrifying woman, the Mirror Courtesan, a creature apparently made of glass. But when she meets the icily beautiful and enigmatic Lin Ye at an auction, she begins to wonder if they could be one and the same person. An-ren and Reed find themselves pitched headlong into a battle against fantastical creatures, menacing humans, and an ancient civilisation that plans to use An-ren as a springboard for rebirth.
