Overview

ohn Morrison, an elderly genealogist whose life takes an extraordinary turn after purchasing a mysterious crystal ball from an antique shop. This artifact initially shows him obituaries of its previous owners, then begins to predict the deaths of others in his community with uncanny accuracy, always giving him thirteen days' notice. John, initially skeptical, soon realizes he has the power to intervene and alter these grim destinies. He forms an unlikely alliance with Elara Vance, a folklore scholar, and Victor Sterling, an occult practitioner, and Victor's sister, Eleanor, who was one of the people they saved. Together, they work to prevent various fatalities, from car accidents and heart attacks to structural collapses, by using the specific details provided in the visions. The narrative culminates in John and his team working with David Chen, an investigative reporter whose sister was murdered by Gideon Black, who turns out to be John's friend, Ron Peterson, the local librarian. The crystal ball reveals Gideon Black's impending death, leading the group to make a difficult decision about intervention, ultimately choosing to allow justice to unfold.
