Known for defending the common man, he led the ""Free Silver Movement"" against the East Coast establishment, that favored the gold standard. Bryan was also Secretary of State (1913-1915) under President Woodrow Wilson. MARY BAIRD BRYAN (1861-1930) was an American writer and suffragette. She was also William Jennings Bryan's wife and played an important role preparing his speeches and articles."
