The Cricket's Story, one of her earliest poems written as a young girl, has now become a children's book to pass on the timeless theme of her beautiful poem about a cricket's desire for happiness.She was born in 1915 in Montgomery, Alabama, the seventh child of Montgomery's long-time mayor, William Adams Gunter and his wife, Julia Scott Gunter. She married Bruce J. Downey, Jr. of Nashville, N.C. and raised two children with him in her new home, Jacksonville, NC. She died in 2007 leaving behind a legacy of love, beauty, and graciousness. Slats Slaton is an award-winning advertising creative director from Alabama who was educated at the University of Alabama and Parsons School of Design. He is also an author who recently published his first novel, Bread Crumbs, a wonderful story about a father's forthright presentation of truth and common sense to his daughter.
