OverviewExcerpt from The Cradle of the Washingtons and the Home of the Franklins In the meantime the old Manor of Sulgrave, Northamptonshire, which had been surrendered to the Crown by the Priory of St. Andrew, had become vacant and, in 1539, it was specially granted to this Laurence Washington for his many services to the County and the State. Here he lived with his family, consisting of four sons and seven daughters, until February 19th, upon which day he died, being buried in the same vault in Sulgrave Church as his wife Amee, who predeceased her husband some twenty years.
