He received his B.S. degree from Fudan University, China, in 1967, and his Ph.D. from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, in 1994. Elected as an Academician by the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2003, he is a leading figure in China’s marine corrosion research and technology development, and has made significant contributions in the areas of marine corrosion science and engineering. Dr. Hou received the Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Progress Award in 2014. He is the Director of the Chinese Marine Corrosion Protection Engineering Research Center, the Honorary President of the Chinese Society for Corrosion and Protection (CSCP), the President of the Strategic Union of Technology Innovation of Marine Corrosion Protection, the Vice Chairman of the National Committee for Standardization of Corrosion Protection, and a member of the National Standardization Committee.
