The Cost of Blooming: Poems of Breaking and Becoming

Overview

A Note from the Author As I self-publish The Cost of Blooming, I want to honour the first review I ever received. It meant the world to me-and reminded me why I wrote this book in the first place. Thank you for taking the time to read it. Reader Review ""Nothing makes me happier in any written form than when chapters are broken not by numbers, but by ideals-by motifs. One of my favourite books of all time is written in four chapters: starting in spring, ending in winter. It's literally my favourite thing. And your poems, especially, are subjective things. But that's just the written word. What matters to some doesn't matter to others. It was all just beautiful and poignant-and a little hard to read. 'Our Son Never Born'... I didn't want to cry and I didn't. But fck-in the wrong time and place I wouldn't want to read that. That said, my favourite part was the Acknowledgments. You worked so hard to tell a specific story with each poem, and yet the acknowledgments and special thanks were fundamentally Mika. Of everything in the book, that section felt like it came straight from your mouth and mind-unedited, raw, real. The acknowledgments were the smallest part of the book, and they weren't even a ""writing""-but they were my favourite. They said the most about you in the shortest space. I loved the whole thing. It just got more and more emotional as it went on-and then that big breath at the end? Left me with a smile I didn't expect.""
