OverviewI am a physician with many patients in various stages of dementia. Their families have found The Conversation to be an effective tool in monitoring and improving their loved one's quality of life. The book is deceptively simple, just pages to record activities of daily living. The families generally interview the patient at different times to fill in the information. This process is helpful in and of itself since it is a conversation and it becomes a project patient and family can do together. My father also had severe dementia the last several years of his life. My mother regrets she has no record of his last years other than her own less than perfect memory. She says this book would have helped her keep a journal and been helpful to have a record of his progress up and down to know how changes in his care had made a difference in his abilities.
