Overview

Karl Heinrich Marx was a German philosopher, economist, historian, sociologist, political theorist, journalist and socialist revolutionary. Born in Trier, Germany, Marx studied law and philosophy at university. He married Jenny von Westphalen in 1843.Friedrich Engels, sometimes anglicised as Frederick Engels, was a German philosopher, historian, political scientist and revolutionary socialist. He was also a businessman, journalist and political activist, whose father was an owner of large textile factories in Salford and Barmen, Prussia. The Communist Manifesto is the classic work of economics that initiated one of the greatest movements of political change that the world has ever seen. The writings of Karl Marx brilliantly expose the vast divide between the elite ruling class and the working class that has existed throughout history. At the time The Communist Manifesto was first published it was intended to serve as a publication to help unite the working class and to form a communist party based on the philosophies of communism. To that aim it was very successful and helped to unleash a wave of sweeping political change.
