... a work worthy to have and enjoy.--Yucatan Secrets, http: //www.yucatansecrets.com/noticias/iglesias/iglesias_eng.php ...handsome and livishly illustrated..--The Espanadana Press, http: //www.colonial-mexico.com/Publications/books.htm After 18.000 kilometers in Mexico studying these world unique monuments, the authors present in two excellent quality books the colonial churches of Yucat n and nine special touristic routes. Outstanding photography and texts with architectonical and historical information make an them an essential for Spain and Latin America lovers. Besides the colonial churches they also present the ruta de los conventos including those of the famous maya region of Puuc. Edited in spanish, german and english.--ECOS Magazine, Magazine for Spanish Students from Germany, 2011 The temples of Yucatan. After the conquest by the spanish conquistadores the monks took over the evangelization of the native population. Very often on the basis of the destroyed maya temples. Many of the churches built at that time still stand and are on the list of worlds threatened cultural monuments issued by the WMF World Monument Forum. In an opulent photography book with 485 photographies the authors present the churches of the western Yucatan. The texts are short, pictures speak by themselves. This book is recommended for both, colonial architecture interested and Mexico visitors, who take a step aside of the traditional sightseeing routes and visit curious and historical buildings. -- (07/01/2010) Exciting insights. Churches in Yucatan. When talking about the caribbean coast everybody thinks of beautiful beaches and turquoise blue water. However, the small villages of Yucatan have something else to offer: for example their colonial churches of the small villages in the countryside. These churches have an interesting history: in the 16 century spanish conquerors invade the areas of the native population, the franciscan monks took care of the evangelization of the natives. The spanish wanted to substitute each maya temple with a christian church. The churches built at that time still stand and attract every time more curious. Many of the churches are seriously damaged so they are included in the WMF list of threatened historic buildings. In two books along 300 pages the authors show the churches and details of their artistic value in their inside. --Westf lische Nachrichten Newspaper, 28.08.2010 Yucatan: the old gods and the new faith. Those traveling to Yucatan do not do it because of this. They bath in the beautiful beaches and or visit the maya ruins. Great archeological sites like Chichen-Itza is definitely a must-see. But at the countryside the churches are forgotten by the millions of tourists. Those build during the conquest of the spanish from the 16. century, mostly built by the franciscan on top of maya temple fundaments. These churches are beautiful witnesses of these bloody and brutal chapter of history of Mexico. Many of the churches are degraded and menace to break. In a enormous round tour the authors covered 18000 km and took 10000 photographies to document the variety of the compact buildings some very small and their inside artistic and historic values. --Nordbayerische Zeitung Newspaper/N rburger Zeitung Newspaper, 28.05.2010 The colonial churches of Yucatan count to the most threatened historic buildings in the world, that is why they were included in the list of the World Monument Forum. In over 600 pages the authors show in a unique documentary work more than 200 churches with pictures and information in two books, one of the east of the peninsula and the other one of the west of Yucatan in the southeast of Mexico. The books are a treasury as architecture and travel guide. Also they give wide insights in the history of the evangelization during the colonial period. We praise the small publishing company for the work of merit to call the attention of the german to this important cultural heritage.--Passauer Neue Presse Newspaper, 18.3.2011 Introducing the book in two volumes The colonial churches in Yucat n each with its particular beauty, in an magnificent work obtaining outstanding photographic details of each church making it possible to appreciate de delicate finesse of the retablos, paintings, murals, baptism piles, pulpits etc. giving testimony of the faith and devotion some centuries ago. We highly recommend this books which contain a grand testimony of the beauty of the catholic church in its heritage and presence in the colonial epoch. -- (03/01/2010)
