Overview

In this book are shown the colonial churches of Yucatan Peninsula in nine trip routes with impressive pictures and texts full of information about historical facts. Besides the churches in Merida, this illustrated book portrays with detail all the Christian constructions in the tourist-trodden Ruta de los conventos which is well connected with the tourist resorts of the zone. Also, the convents and churches of the Puuc region, well known for its mayas s ruins, are collected in this book. However, the small villages of Yucatan have something else to offer: for example their colonial churches of the small villages in the countryside. These churches have an interesting history: in the 16 century spanish conquerors invade the areas of the native population, the franciscan monks took care of the evangelization of the natives. The spanish wanted to substitute each maya temple with a christian church. The churches built at that time still stand and attract every time more curious.
