26-year-old Kat is determined to reinvent herself as part of her move to sunny Austin, Texas. Afraid that her goth image is holding her back, she adopts a daytime career persona of color-wearing Katie. Dr. Nicolas Stone is a positive psychologist about to launch a new book. When his publisher hires Katie's PR firm to help with the campaign, he can't help but fall for this capable young woman who values career as much as he does. Meanwhile, Katie bonds instantly with her metalhead neighbor, Damon, who shows her the joys of living in Austin. All goes well until Katie's new boss assigns her to follow Nicolas Stone on his lecture tour. At first, she resents him for his simplistic answers to the problems she has struggled with her entire life, but soon she starts to see him in a new light. Just when Katie thinks Nicolas could be the one, a secret from his past is revealed that makes her question if they could ever be together, making Damon's simple and fun personality even more appealing.
