Overview

This book is the result of research carried out in the city of João Pessoa-PB, which aimed to obtain an overview of the band project linked to the Department of Education and Culture (SEDEC). The project has been running for more than two decades and is inserted in schools offering extracurricular musical activities, predominantly the practice of marching bands. Here I provide information on the profile of the conductors who make up the project's staff, the repertoire used in the bands and discuss the teaching concepts that guide the practice of bands in municipal schools, as well as the educational function of the project from the conductors' point of view. I also reflect on the conductors' training and the working conditions offered by the project.
