The Children of Amargosa - Childhood ends the night the sky explodes. For Davra Andraste, her quiet life aboard Amargosa's orbital station is shattered when aliens known as the Gelt destroy it. She falls to the surface and links up with a cadet bamed Eric Yuwono, along with two teens, Ellie and Duffy, who excel in explosive pranks and mostly harmless hacking. For JT Austin, his idyllic farm life is destroyed when his host family is slaughtered. He and their daughter Lizzy flee for the woods. When JT and Davra's group link up, they form the core of a new resistance to the aliens. Gimme Shelter - JT Austin flees his wealthy family to make his own fortune on Tian, the financial and cultural capital of the Compact. A prank lands him on Amargosa, an agricultural colony. To teach him a lesson, his parents strand him there, hoping he will learn something of work. JT soon finds himself under gaze of the farmer's daughter. And a shady constable from a nearby township. Something is going on, though. The constable is training a fighting force. Plus, rumors abound of a coming alien invasion.
