The Case for Us

Overview

It's been four years since childhood best friends Kelsi and Dylan last spoke to each other. Now, when their lives are both upended-Kelsi's by a broken engagement, and Dylan's by a near-fatal injury on deployment-they find themselves back in their small, coastal hometown in Virginia. Not knowing the other has returned, they accept positions at the local prosecutor's office and are assigned to prosecute a first-degree murder case together, forcing them to address the past. Kelsi thought she had moved on from her childhood crush, yet, while working alongside Dylan, she can't help but feel herself falling for him all over again. Dylan isn't sure what happened four years ago that sent Kelsi running from him, but he's never been able to let her memory go. Now, he's determined to get to the bottom of it, especially when he finds out that an officer also has eyes for her. With missing evidence and less than two months to prepare for the jury trial, the odds are stacked against them. When Kelsi begins to receive anonymous threats demanding she drop the case, she realizes the stakes for her heart-and her life-are higher than ever.

Reviews

""Emotional, witty, and compelling, The Case for Us deftly weaves a heartwarming second-chance romance inside of a page-turning mystery. It's such a delicious read! And Madisson Blake is definitely an author to watch.""-Erin Nieto, author of Love and Conductivity ""The Case for Us is a tightly woven blend of legal suspense and second-chance romance, and Madisson Blake handles both with remarkable finesse. From the first chapter, the story pulls you into the emotional history between Kelsi and Dylan while steadily building the tension of a case surrounded by secrecy, corruption, and real danger. What stands out most is how grounded the characters feel-every hesitation, every confession, and every shift in trust unfolds with a kind of honesty that makes their relationship compelling to follow. Blake delivers a story that's suspenseful without sacrificing heart, romantic without feeling predictable, and thoughtful in all the ways that matter. It's the kind of book you sink into and don't want to put down.""-Sakthika Vijay, author of Jasmine Flowers and Pounds of Sugar and Outcast ""Madisson Blake forces two people with unresolved history to work a first-degree murder case. The plot is stacked: missing evidence, a ruthless killer, and threats that escalate with every passing chapter. But the real heart of the tension is the forced proximity of two people desperately trying to keep their past where it belongs.""-Lexie Janson, author of The White Raven Tales series
