The Carpathia Rescues Titanic Survivors

Overview

On April 15, 1912, at around 12:20 a.m., the RMS Carpathia received an urgent distress call from the Titanic. The Carpathia's captain, Arthur Rostron, didn't hesitate. He steamed his ship toward the disaster at top speed, navigating through a minefield of icebergs along the way. Through quick action, more than 700 souls survived the sinking of the Titanic. How did the Carpathia captain, crew, and passengers carry out the life-saving effort, and what is the enduring legacy of their heroic act? Through the compelling, easy-to-read graphic novel format, young readers can learn why the maritime rescue is among the greatest moments in history.

Author Information

Ashley Storm is the author of more than 40 fiction and nonfiction books for children and teens. Prior to transitioning to a full-time writing career, she practiced law, specializing in juvenile justice and criminal law. Ashley lives in Kentucky with her husband, three mischievous cats, and a flock of bossy backyard chickens who peck on the back door to demand treats. Mat Edwards draws inspiration from the things he sees in daily life. As a student, he won a four-year art apprenticeship where he learned a variety of skills from mapmakers, engravers, and other tremendously skilled artists. Since then, his talent and eye for detail has remained constant, while his techniques have evolved. Whether using traditional materials or digital methods, he enjoys bringing well-arranged blobs of paint and pixels to life.
