""When cardinals appear, angels are near,"" was the inspiration for this collection of poetry. I believe our angels, great spirit, and holy creator provide gentle, loving guidance, without judgement...we just need to be open to seeing and feeling this energy. I am continually in awe by this tremendous, yet simplistic power. I believe we are humbly asked to listen to the serene spiritual voices of nature, releasing all fear and doubt. It is through this cleansing we are able to access our truth, therefore aligning ourselves with gratitude and love, and demanding a more compassionate humankind.

Professor, community leader, and social justice advocate Charlie Alfortish was born and raised in New Orleans, La. The Cardinal Chronicles is his first collection of poetry. The poem ""Dream the Dream"" was previously published in 1994. When not writing poetry, practicing mindfulness, or enjoying beauty all around him, Charlie can be found spoiling his wife Aileen and planning their next adventure; treasuring moments with those who call him Papaw; and enjoying laughs and wine with family and friends.
