OverviewOne morning early, three bodies appear screwed and taped to three large crosses planted in front of a local Pentecostal church whose pastor is an ultra-conservative firebrand. One victim is a black professor, one is an Asian student, one is a white punk rocker, and all were attendants at a Black Lives Matter protest that took place in front of the church the previous day. In the course of the investigation, Midge must put aside her own feelings for the many suspects in the case, to focus on where the evidence leads and which suspect or suspects are the likely perpetrators. The firebrand pastor, his unfaithful wife, a radio ""shock-jock,"" a white nationalist teacher at a local school, and many other characters, form a veritable gamut of conflicting testimonies and leads that Midge and Jake must work their way through in order to insure that justice prevails.
