Overview

Celes is an island frozen in time. While the rest of the world moves into the 21st century, this small nation of 885 km² remains under a veneer of three-piece suits, gas lamps, and a Victorian aesthetic imposed by the Oread dynasty. But beneath this facade of order and elegance, Celes is a ""beautiful prison"" where modern technology is banned and the past hides heinous crimes. Ocean ""Cian"" Feng, a fifteen-year-old soldier with the mystical gift of setting fire with his hands, patrols the island's borders convinced that justice is a straight line. His world begins to fracture when he is drawn into the heart of power in Gardenia, the capital, and discovers that the threads of society are not pulled only by men, but by forces that defy human understanding. Amidst a web of palace intrigue, Cian joins forces with two unlikely figures: Eiden Ishikawa, the young and astute prime minister who carries the trauma of a bloody birth, and the enigmatic Angel, the hidden prince whose very existence is a state secret. Joining them is Michel ""Micky"" Angenoir, an eccentric architect who designs cities but lacks what humans call a ""heart."" When the island's stability crumbles under the shadow of a self-coup, the so-called ""Cabinet of Angels"" is formed: a council of supposedly pure young people charged with saving Celes from its own corruption.
