Overview

In 2024, Brooklyn Poder entered the first Morisset Rotary School Writing Competition. Her story caught the attention of one of the judges and she was invited to participate in a mentoring program sponsored by Kani Consultants. In 2025, Sandra Joy and Linda Hutchinson, met with Brooklyn for 90 minutes each month for six months, and the three authors worked on Brooklyn's writing skills. At the end of the mentorship, Brooklyn said: ""Now I want to teach my younger sister how to write because she's a great storyteller"". The three stories in this book are the competition entry and two written during the mentorship.

Young Australian author and illustrator, Brooklyn Poder, is surrounded by pets and native animals, but dreams of owning even more. In 2024, Brooklyn entered the first Morisset Rotary School Writing Competition. Her story caught the attention of one of the judges and she was invited to participate in a mentoring program sponsored by Kani Consultants. Leanne Deering is an Illustrator and Graphic Designer known for creating book cover artwork, character illustrations and multimedia designs. Through a blend of digital and traditional methods she creates unique and charming hand-drawn illustrations. Leanne lives in the beautiful city of Newcastle and has a Bachelor of Visual Communication in Graphic Design and Illustration/Animation and Interaction from the University of Newcastle Australia. When not immersed in her design projects she enjoys drawing, photography, reading books and watching movies.
