Overview

"When your name is Brickman, there are high expectations that you will be tough. Brickman cursed his parents for his name, and with good reason. Entering his first year of high school, Brickman stood just over five feet tall and weighed less than 90 pounds. One of the smallest kids in his year, his large than life name was big enough to make him a target for every bully in school. High school became a daily test for survival. With no friends and no hope for the future, each bell that sounded to announce the end of a class period signaled a six minute gauntlet to some how arrive at the safety of his next class turning the school days into a never ending cycle of day in and day out torture. This book is based on actual events in the life of Brickman Allen. His story of longing for acceptance is a vulnerable sharing of how he felt invisible and lost, struggled with depression, and was incapable of seeing a single good attribute in himself. During his high school years, Brickman walked a dark path. The Bully Guard is his story and in these pages are found the insights and strategy that helped him overcame all that tore him down and to ultimately find that not only was he someone who should not give up on life, but that he was worthy of the title ""friend"". Every person has a desire to belong, be accepted, and be loved for who they truly are. From the most popular person on campus, to the ones who sit all alone at lunch, we all desire people to be a part of our life who see past the mask and outward portrayal and see us for who we truly are. Someone who is powerful enough to change the world through simple acts of kindness and courage, creating a place where all feel welcomed, seen, and loved."

Author Information

"Brickman ""Brick"" Allen is an Arizona native who grew up with the legacy of when you get bucked off a horse, you get right back on, even if you are afraid. Brick is an advocate for youth, speaking all over the world. He teach-es that we are destined to overcome the difficulties of life, which em-powers us with a greater capacity to reach out and help others. In his early twenties, Brick and his wife Malinda experienced a home invasion where Brick received serious injuries, leaving him on life support. Doctors determined that Brick would be on life support for weeks, but only 3 days later was strong enough to come out of an in-duced coma. With his life on the line, Brick realized he needed to get back in the saddle.Relying on his time in high school when he overcame bullying, de-pression, and self-doubt, Brick applied those hard lessons learned to his recovery. Walking out of the hospital within days, rather than months later. Focusing on sharing a message of understanding our own worth and power, Brick now enjoys speaking at youth events, assemblies at high schools, middle schools, elementary schools and anywhere else that youth gather, creating a social disruption against bullying and teach-ing youth to see themselves as powerful agents of positive change in their own lives and the lives of others."
