The Brownest Mouse in Town

Overview

Pay a visit to the Polka Dot Pet Shop...where every pet is marvellous, magical and unique. Every pet, that is, except a plain, brown mouse who doesn't feel special at all and longs to fit in. This heartfelt story of self-acceptance teaches young readers not to judge by appearances and to believe in their abilities, even if they aren't the loudest, boldest or most popular. With a bold art style and inclusive illustrations featuring a diverse community, it has a simple rhyming style that young readers will love. It celebrates smaller domestic pets, not usually featured in picture books like hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, fish and even snails. AGES: 3 to 5 AUTHOR: Tarah lives in Warwickshire with her husband and young son. From the age of five, she wanted to become an author and wrote, illustrated and made books for competitions at school or for her younger brother. She studied creative writing at The University of Warwick, but then made her way into the corporate world and marketing. She recently started writing again and as a new mum, felt compelled to write something for children. She is fascinated by the captivating power storytelling has over children and how childhood experiences and memory shape our values and personality traits. Tarah's Mauritian-Welsh heritage and experience growing up in the Middle East attending international schools has given her a rich and diverse understanding of race, heritage, custom, and culture, providing ideas and settings for the stories she is yet to write.
