The Breeding

Overview

The Breeding (2025, formerly The Gorge) follows the migratory Cliff Dwellers, whose survival hinges on a sacred ritual: the ""Breeding of the Virgins."" Young women are offered to elders, told it is their duty. When Maxtla is chosen, she expects honor but finds exploitation. Her resistance challenges the sanctified lies underpinning their culture. A visceral study of power and obedience for readers of Atwood and Butler, The Breeding warns that traditions can hide violence.
