Reviews

""This book is an immersive experience that illustrates a courageous journey of citizenship. Through beautiful illustrations and heartfelt storytelling,  The Boy from Mexico Becomes a U.S. Citizen reminds us of the humanity, dreams, and resilience behind every story of migration."" - LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, Education Department ""The Boy from México Becomes a U.S. Citizen has a heartfelt, charming, and beautiful way of depicting a process that so many are not familiar with. As an immigrant who lives in a largely Latino city, I was emotional reading through this book as it helps to build empathy and understanding of the realities that many of those who leave their home countries experience when coming to the United States. Folks from all walks of life can benefit from a tender-hearted and moving book like this."" - Mirtle Peña-Calderón ""It is more than just a children’s book—it’s a powerful story of resilience, love for family, and the transformative journey of becoming. Edward Dennis has created a beautifully illustrated narrative that reflects the real experiences of so many families, while offering a source of pride and validation for young readers who rarely see themselves represented....I believe this book is a must-have for every classroom, library, and home. It gives our niños and niñas a mirror to see their bravery and a window for others to understand it."" - Ashley K. Stoyanov Ojeda, Author of Jefa in Training + Business Strategist ""...a wonderful book for kids of all cultures."" - Edward James Olmos, Academy Award-winning actor in films such as Coco, Selena, Stand and Deliver, and Blade Runner ""The Boy From Mexico Becomes a U.S. Citizen illustrates (with beautiful imagery!) the fulfillment of a dream that immigrants have when they cross borders—the successful culmination of years of fear, uncertainty, courage, and hard work. I especially love the drawings that include places in Mexico dear to my own heart because of my ancestry. I wish all immigrants could experience the joy that Luz does in this story.""- Megan Jensen-Lauterio, Deputy Director of the Latinx Kid Lit Book Festival  ""No matter where we are from, we all long to feel a sense of belonging and security. Within the beautifully illustrated and poignantly narrated pages of Edward Dennis' new book, we follow the story of Luz Alvarez, a boy from Mexico, who becomes a US citizen through his hard work and determination. A story of hope that transcends borders."" - Karen Wang Diggs, author of The Book of Awesome Asian Women
