The Box Breakers: Student Anthology with Dr. Annise Mabry - Volume 1

Overview

In 2018, Dr. Annise Mabry published the first book in her Educational Disobedience series. The Box Breakers is the second book in the series. Dr. Mabry is known in academic circles and rural communities as A one woman A-Team for students in need. But Dr. Mabry didn't always start out as a box breaker. She became a box breaker for sheer survival. For the first time, Dr. Mabry writes this story with both her children and the families in the communities where she implemented her programs. Tiers Free Academy uses Georgia's homeschool laws to empower parents and guardians to issue high school diplomas to high school drop-outs, homeless LGBTQ youth, and sex trafficking survivors. This anthology is their story. --------------- They arrive in my office battered, broken, and defeated. My role in their story is small - I simply built a program that provided them with a pathway to become a high school graduate. They made the choice to break the box. They are the box breakers and this anthology is their story. Some of their stories will make you laugh and some will make you cry. Some will make you question why no one intervened to help. DR. ANNISE MABRY
