Hutchinson, Jr. is a teacher at Northwest University in Xian, China, where he teaches environmental science, Western culture and English writing to Chinese university students. His educational background includes a bachelor of science in animal science from Montana State University and a master of education in science and secondary education from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He taught physics and chemistry at Marion High School in Arkansas before moving to China where he taught science and English in Chengdu and Xian. Hutchinson has ministered to diverse groups, including orphans in Romania, Cambodian youth and adults in prison. Hutchinson has been involved in the environment since his youth as a Boy Scout, and later as a Scoutmaster and adult leader. He's been an active supporter of many volunteer organizations, as a crew chief for Habitat for Humanity and for World Changers of Southern Baptist Missions. He also served in hurricane disaster relief in Homestead, Florida and the Mississippi coast, as well as earthquake relief in Chengdu, China. Hutchinson came to China in 2003 to work full-time as a teacher and self-supporting missionary. He is actively involved as a speaker on environmental issues in China. He spends his spare time playing basketball with students and hiking in the Qinling Mountains near Xian, where the endangered golden snub-nosed monkey and rare brown giant panda reside.
