Overview

The book of Genesis is the book of beginnings. Genesis is not a book written to prove that God exists, it just states that he does exist, and then it tells you what he has done. Genesis begins with God as Creator, creating everything out of nothing in six literal 24 hour days and resting of the seventh as a type of a coming rest one day. Sin has its beginning in its opening pages with Adam disobeying God's only law and because of it man is cast out the garden of Eden with a curse placed on all mankind because of Adam's sin. The wages of sin is death. Numerous dispensations have their beginnings and endings in the book of Genesis, ending with the dispensation of the law, which carried on from Moses all the way through the book of Genesis. The is a worldwide flood, the tower of babel where God divided languages which created the nations, Then we read about a nation separate from all the nations, the nation of Israel.
