Overview

The book of Daniel continues to fascinate Bible students. The ancient stories are inspiring for character building. Daniel outlines world history in an amazing precision. In a very innovative way this commentary brings to the study of Daniel an engaging perspective on what the author presented. The text of Daniel interacts with archaeological evidence to bring a refreshing understanding of the world of Daniel. In fact, this commentary brings out material culture from the contemporary world of Daniel that shows that Daniel was a real man who did not live in a vacuum. This volume illustrates that the text of Daniel has compelling relevance to biblical studies and historical events from the time of Daniel to the present and beyond.

Reviews

""In this book, Mazani has solved the seemingly aporetic historical discrepancies between ancient history and Daniel's history. He has been able to settle the matter by drawing our attention to the differences in ancient systems of reckoning. . . . While reading this book, we are transported back and forth 'archaeologically' between the politico-historical issues to the socio-religious issues developed in the book of Daniel; both issues are pivotal in order to develop a sound theology of the book of Daniel."" --Jacques Bibrac, Secretary, Seventh-day Adventist French Antilles-Guiana Union Conference ""Dr. Patrick Mazani has indebted us with his careful and insightful and scholarly analysis of the book of Daniel, using the science of archaeology as a unique lens. . . . This is a volume that should find its prominent place in the library of any serious scholar. I am filled with gratitude for a well-researched commentary. As one of his teachers in his theological formative years, I am not surprised at the quality of his work. Dr. Mazani, we owe you a debt of gratitude."" --Joel Musvosvi, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Weimar University, California ""Mazani uses voices of the past to bring life to a book that has been shrouded in mystery and speculation. Careful to avoid simplistic readings of fundamentalist interpretation of the book of Daniel, he stops short of hypercritical skepticism. The Book of Daniel: An Archaeological Commentary offers a translation of the original text, illuminating it with archaeological material. Mazani has been able to breathe life into ruins and ancient artifacts. The reader will experience the book of Daniel as a traveler through time, being led by a scholar who takes biblical material and archeological research seriously."" --Efrain Velazquez, President, Inter-American Adventist Theological Seminary ""In this book, Mazani has solved the seemingly aporetic historical discrepancies between ancient history and Daniel's history.
