Its predecessor was established in 1987 with the approval of the State Council. It undertakes the investigation, monitoring, evaluation, and registration of natural resource assets and real property. It also carries out the technology and research, and major project organization and implementation of national spatial planning and land use control. It also conducts the research on farmland protection, land conservation and intensive use, property rights system policies, thus providing technical support for natural resource management and law enforcement.
