THE BLOODY SPUR Cyrus McCrady, executive director of the Kyne publishing empire, is dead, and it's Walter Kyne's job to choose his successor. There are four worthy candidates: Arnold Lamin, editor-in-chief of the Kyne newswire service; John Day Griffith, editor of the Sentinel, the key New York paper; Harry Kritzer, chief of the Kyne photo service; and Mark Loving, head of the feature syndicate. Walter Kyne also has a big murder story to cover, and makes it clear to the four of them that the man who gets the scoop, gets the job. The murder is a savage affair-two women stabbed to death, and a small child dismembered. It's not clear at first that these are the work of just one young man. But Sentinel's ace reporter, Ed Mobley, has an in at the police department, and tracks the crimes for Griffith. They break the news that the murders are the work of one person.
