Overview

Lilias Murdoch's last memory was the heat of the flames and dark choking smoke that surrounded her as she and two others were being burnt whilst tied to a standing stone. That was in 16th century Scotland. It is now 1960 and she is in the company of a fellow witch accused ancestor, Susan Chattan. Trying to acclimate to her new circumstances takes her on a dangerous journey back to the scene of the crime. She wasn't the only one to travel through time, something evil has followed her. Lily and Susan must find their way to Wellwood Manor to discover whether there is any truth to the legend that the three Lochart cousins still live as both man and beast four hundred years later. One in particular is of interest to Lily, Coburn Lochart, the right-hand man to the Laird. Dark and dangerous his reflection appears in her mirrors and beckons her to join him. But can she trust the man that stood by while she burned. Stranger still is the fate of the other two witches; will they all meet again to put this evil to rest.
