Feye finds herself ensnared in a life of relentless misery. At twenty, her parents have cruelly condemned her to marriage with a man twice her age, and infinitely darker in his cruelty. Feye breaks free from her husband's clutches, escaping into the Blackbriar Woods. As dawn breaks, the sounds of Charles's furious pursuit grow nearer, his rage palpable through the trees. In her frantic flight, Feye encounters Nox-a towering woodland monster with haunting black eyes and gnarled horns. Despite her fear, Feye sees him as her only chance of survival. Barriers between human and monster blur. They find solace in each other's arms, two lost souls entwined where boundaries cease to exist.
