Both mainstream and radical black intellectual thought are charted and defined with reference to the life and writings of Oliver Cox, C.L.R. James, W.E.B. Du Bois, Cornel West and James Baldwin. The dialectics of nationalism and internationalism are examined, along with the place of the black intellectual in the social, political and cultural structure of society.
