"Melissa La Cour is an author/ illustrator born and raised in New Jersey. She earned a BFA in illustration and animation from Montclair State University after completing her Associates degree in graphic design at Sussex County Community College. She began karate at four years old and continues to train and teach to this day. Combining her love of cartoons and karate she wanted to take the lessons she learned and make them available to kids everywhere. With her first picture book ""The Black Belt ABC's"" she takes kids along on an alphabet journey so they too can learn the values she has taken away from her time at the dojo."
