Overview

This story is taken from an experience the author had in her childhood. Some things were changed to protect certain people and places. Other things were drawn from memories, some of which were described by her as a little dim, but the feelings and emotions surrounding the events remained clear as day. Because of that, at times the scenarios were constructed for the strong emotions and for only small bits of memory. However, this story that happened in the life of the author and her father in the 1940's, is an event, that held a surprise conclusion in the life of the author after she had grown up and become a parent, and even a grandparent, herself.

Author Information

Sonja Carlo is a retired nurse. She grew up in northern Indiana, spent 15 years in Fairbanks, Alaska raising her 5 children, came back to the lower 48, and now resides in Kalamazoo Michigan. She enjoys writing, her journal work, and walking her dog Spencer. She started writing stories for her grandchildren long before she retired; then she started publishing her journal, and stories when she retired.
