Reviews

This massive compendium of biomedical engineering information is the latest edition of Bronzino's handbook (previous editions in 1995, 1999, and 2006). It now consists of four hefty stand-alone volumes: Biomedical Engineering Fundamentals, Medical Devices and Human Engineering, Biomedical Signals, Imaging, and Informatics, and Molecular, Cellular, and Tissue Engineering, running in total to almost 5500 pages and hundreds of thoroughly researched entries, each including necessary formulae, charts, illustrations, and substantial bibliographies. Each volume contains a CD with selected illustrations in pdf format. The entries are almost completely rewritten from earlier editions, with significant additions of new material, including a section on ethics in the final volume. Each volume contains a preface, list of contributors (mostly from significant universities in the United States, but with some international contributors), and a volume-specific index. The breadth and depth of the material is exhaustive. ... Recommended for libraries with a biomedical program, especially given its competitive price. -Peter Larsen, for ARBAonline
