A megastar of melodic movies of the 1940s and '50s, Powell's hits included Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, inverse Howard Keel, and Imperial Wedding, in which she featured close by Fred Astaire. Powell was conceived Suzanne Lorraine Burce, the lone offspring of Paul Emerson Burce and Eileen Baker Burce, on April 1, 1929, in Portland, Oregon.
