Reviews

New York Daily News
Saturday, May 3rd 2008
Babies and why we love them so
Perhaps you have a teenager who's behaving like one. Or possibly your 9-year-old daughter is insisting all her friends do so go out on group dates. And yesterday, your still tousled-headed 6-year-old boy refused to take your hand in public.
How did you get here? As Mother's Day approaches, you can't do better than to be reminded of the small package that once nestled against your chest and smelled so sweet. That can certainly be had from The Big Book of Babies (Welcome Books, $24.95).
In fact, baby smell almost wafts off the pages. Editor J.C. Suares chose his pictures well - 230 of them. There's the always adorable shot of an infant yawning, a baby squished into the infant bathtub and one asleep in the highchair. Classics all.
Then there's young Princess Elizabeth lovingly gazing down at Prince Charles in a draped bassinet. Elvis and Priscilla Presley hold their darlin' Lisa Marie close, Priscilla's bouffant almost taller than her baby. Is that Mother Teresa nuzzling a wee one?
If, to your mind, there's nothing in nature cuter than a toddler's naked bum on the run from an approaching diaper, or the wizened brow of an infant seemingly deeply perplexed, then you need this book. If, as Ralph Waldo Emerson said, A child is a curly, dimpled lunatic, then they're our kind of crazy, dimples, curls and all.
