The Bhagavadgeethaa: In English Verse

Overview

The Gita needs no introduction. In the morning I bathe my intellect in the stupendous cosmogonic philosophy of the Bhagvad Gita.... said H.D.Thoreau. The Bhagavad Geethaa is not a commentary; it is a direct translation of the Gita into English verse. For those desirous of studying this divine instruction in its original grandeur sans the opinions and interpretations of the authors, this is the best - may be the only one - available.

Author Information

Shri Dayananda Saraswati a.k.a Kripaananda was a Pumbhava Saraswati, a true manifestation and masculine form of Saraswati the Goddess of Education. As the Head of the Department of English, Dharmavanth College, Hyderabad, he was eulogised by his students and colleagues as a Walking Encyclopaedia; he was a Master of Aeschylus to Coleridge to Calculus to Cartography to the point of Aristotilian perfection. His in-depth knowledge of Gita is unachievable by many Gita Scholars. In a sense, he wrote this wonderful work with so much felicity of word-picture expression, incorporating the exact parameters of prosody. This has transformed this volume of every poem of the Gita in English into a Vedic hymn suggesting that no word could be altered without altering it for the worse. The literary and spiritual work in your hand is a synthesis of Orientalism and Victorian poetical tradition. -- in the words of Sri M. SubbaRao, retired PS to Additional Deputy CAG, New Delhi
