On her eighteenth birthday, shy Scotswoman, IONA's heart is broken by ENZO who kisses her, then calls her by her twin's name. His plan will build her dream business, but means she'll spend time with the man she has neither forgiven nor forgotten. She agrees-on condition they keep the fake engagement secret from her family. They embark on a tour of fragrance hotspots using Enzo's private jet. The flame between them is rekindled. In Florence, during a brief argument, Enzo confesses he threw away the love of the only woman he ever wanted to marry. Iona takes that to mean there is no hope for her love of him. Later, after a visit to the Santa Maria Novella Pharmacy, they visit an apothecary where Iona blends her signature fragrance. Her 'teacher' is called away by Enzo, and his daughter, who wants Enzo for herself, poisons Iona with pure alcohol. Enzo removes them to Egypt. When Iona's life is threatened again with an abduction in Cairo, Enzo realises he can't live without her. He rescues her through her ingenuity and they return to his family's estates in Grasse, France. Thierry accuses Iona of marrying Enzo for his money. She engages him in a bitter word battle and calls off the 'engagement', blaming Enzo for not admitting to his father's gambling addiction. Iona's brother, Enzo's best friend, the Laird Kellburgh, has learned of the 'engagement' and arrives for an explanation. Iona leaves with him, refusing to engage with Enzo. Enzo confronts his father and realises Thierry instigated Iona's abduction to stymie Enzo's ability to meet Thierry's ultimatum because Thierry needs the sale money to cover his debts. Enzo orders him out of the business. Enzo follows Iona to Scotland, admits hers was the love he'd abandoned and begs her forgiveness. Iona resists his marriage proposal. In the end, their love wins out.
